The C.J. Memorial Turtle Statistics Library.

The Turtles have always had a weird thing for statistics. His name was C.J. and he played for the Turtles from 1981 to 1996. Sadly C.J. is no longer with us - he's moved to Palmerston North (although you'll see he rates a recent mention in the 1997 Team Trip write-up). However, the spirit of his plodding attention to recording the Turtles every statistical move lives on in this section of the website dedicated to the dusty annals of Turtle history.

Captain Stevie's match reports started in 1997 and he surprised us all with his acid wit and merciless satire - the 1997 Match Reports are a bloody good read.

Of course the Fabulous Turtles F.C. is only as good as it's players (that's the problem really - but we talk a good game). Our player list reads like a who's who... errm... For many years we introduced a new statistic each season. The statistics tracked and their year of introduction are:

  • 1981 - Date, opposition, final score, goal-scorers, man-o-the-match
  • 1982 - Kickoff time
  • 1983 - Ground name, ground conditions
  • 1984 - Who won the toss? Did we have nets? Did we have an association referee? Flavour of half-time drink. Weather conditions.
  • 1986 - Tit-o-the-day
  • 1987 - Number of spectators
  • 1988 - Did we have line flags?
  • 1989 - Did we play with our ball?
  • 1990 - Team performance, rating out of 10
  • 1991 - Number of hangovers
  • 1992 - Facilities (changing rooms), rating out of 10
  • 1993 - Goal assists (the final pass leading to a goal)
  • 1995 - Opposition demeanour
  • 1996 - Quote of the day
  • 2003 - WINO (Wankers IN the Opposition)
  • 2005 - Airballs
